Week of May 4-7 Welcome back! This week our activities are going to focus on heat and friction. Check out this awesome book that's all about it! Great job! What did you think about that book? Share your thoughts with a parent. Next, you are going to try an online simulation. Notice what happens when you grab the blue book and rub it back and forth? Watch the thermometer on the side! What happens when you go faster or slower? What about when you lift the book just a little bit? Have fun! Click on the picture to open the simulation. Finally, try this AWESOME demonstration of how friction can help as a lifting force! Materials: empty plastic bottle, pencil or chopstick, and dry rice Check out this video to see what to do! I hope you had a restful time and that you and your family are healthy and happy. This week, we are going to learn about the properties of certain kinds of matter. This is a review topic, so it should be fun! Normally, I'd start you off with a book, but it's kinda hard to find a video of someone reading a book about the properties of matter! Instead, I've found you this great short video that's a summary of the things you need to know about the properties of matter! Great job! Do you want to try an online interactive, now? Check out this great game by clicking on the picture below. (Note to parents, this game requires Adobe Flash Player) Did you figure out what each material was like by testing it? Pretty cool stuff! Finally, you may be wondering what in the world I was thinking with the title of the assignment! We haven't talked at all about why we wear clothes. Well the answer is in our amazing Mystery Science activity. Please check out the video and complete the challenge if you're able. It's great fun if you'd like to try it out, but don't stress if you or your parents are not up to it. Remember, these activities are only meant to bring joy! Click the picture below to see the Mystery Science Video and Activity. HAVE FUN! This week we are talking about heat! Check out this awesome lesson from Mystery Science! If you have the materials, give the activity a try. If not, don't sweat it!
Welcome back! Spring break is a great time to observe the big changes happening in the plants around us! This week, try planting a seed and observing it as it grows. If you don't have any seeds, consider whether you have something with seeds in your kitchen that you could plant! Do you have a tomato? a strawberry? an orange? Any of these common foods have seeds and you can plant them! Still not sure what to plant? This guide below will help you and your parents find something just right! Still struggling? Try looking outside around your house for something already in the ground that is just starting to grow- it may be a new kind of flower, a bush that is budding, or even a week in the yard!
